Introduction
Upgradation has always been an important aspect of a new era. Most of the people are keen to see the changes if it is a minor one. By the end of the year 2021, Microsoft shared the news of Windows 11, which was no less than a surprise for people. It was much of good news for Microsoft Windows users. There are several changes along with the interface of Windows 11 but the major changes come with the redesigned Start Menu. Start Menu is the core of controlling your system. Users access it for frequently used apps. Approximately only 1% of users accessed Windows Insider Program for windows 11. (1)
Legacy
Remember the time when Microsoft introduced Windows 8, the concept of bringing down the Start Menu completely made them learn a lot. Bringing the changes does not mean Microsoft forgets about the legacy. Keeping the legacy persistent Microsoft adapter the widget from Windows vista, which still got 0.26% market share worldwide, but instead of sticking them on desktop made a separate tab in the taskbar. Changes
The emergence of Windows 11 begins from Windows 10X concept. Windows 10X was for dual displays format, symmetric form factor. There have been several changes inculcated into the start of Windows 11.
Similarity
Windows 11 Start Menu is more likely to be adapted from the smartphone experience of the android version. The swiping up of all apps in one place helps in easy navigation through apps.
Rounded Corners
The journey from sharp to rounded corners is decent. The sharp-edged Start Menu changed into a rounded smooth edge Start Menu. The complete Windows 11 has rounded corner touch.
Major Network Changes
Microsoft has made a shift in Windows 11 by promoting Microsoft Teams to an immense level, replacing it with skype. Integrations of chat are quite a touch.
Search Bar
At the top of the Start Menu, a search bar helps you in finding any file on your system just at the typing distance. It lists down all the similar files on the system as per your keywords and displays them within the minimum possible time.
Pinned Apps
The top section of the Windows 11 Start Menu is Pinned Apps. It contains all those apps, a user wants to access as soon as possible. This helps a user get a good user experience. Keeping in mind, it replaced with a live tile apps version of Windows 10. There are dots on the right side pinned apps, which are actually to swipe between collections of all the pinned apps.
No more live tiles
Live tiles have covered a long journey from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Microsoft has made several updates to make them usable but Windows 11 has completely wiped off the concept of live tiles. Instead, in Windows 11 the live tiles concept implemented into widgets panel, which have their own identity now in a separate tab.
Recommended Apps
Below the pinned Apps, there are recommended apps section. It contains all those apps, which are most often used.
Limitations
Apart from the magnificent changes in Start Menu, there comes some limitations as well.
- Tiles are not available anymore.
- The size of the Start Menu cannot be changed
- The grouping of Apps in the Start Menu is not possible anymore.
